Welcome to the shop!

Class begins Monday! Windsor chairmaking is unique in that the process begins with a log of fresh green wood. From there, the parts are shaved and shaped into a chair utilizing many of the same techniques and tools of our ancestors. The result is not only chair built to last a lifetime but an engaging and intimate experience. My shop is located In Auburn Ca at the base of the Sierra Mountains. We live in the country side surrounded Oak trees and the sounds of nature. There’s something very special about making chairs in this manner and I hope you’ll join me in my shop for Windsor chairmaking in Northern California

Fan Back Side Chair

October 21st - 26th 2024

$1500

This is a great chair for the beginner while still offering plenty of challenge for the more experienced. Its free and will give you good heads up on how the class will go.

Glen’s Contemporary Perch

March 14th - 16th 2024

October 14th - 16th 2024

$850

This stool is based off of Perter Galbert’s perch with Glen Rundell’s contemporary flair. It’s forward lean is designed to encourages one into a more proper sitting position. A lovely little chair that works great at a desk or just about anywhere. Glen’s aesthetic on this one is just stunning and will be the goal we shoot for. This stool can be constructed in just about 2 or 3 days, making it a great long weekend class. Additionally, the simpler forms and shapes allow for the student to do their own turnings (I’m also happy to provide them if you prefer). Don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any comments questions or concerns.

The Ember Chair

April 8th - April 13th 2024

October 7th - 12th 2024

$1400

Earlier this year I was asked by my friend Blake Loree to help design and build a chair for a massive project in his home town of Waco, Tx. The Ember chair is the result. It offers simpler construction with much of the same traditional windsor elements all wrapped up in a lovely contemporary aesthetic. As Blake likes to say “turning is at the heart of this chair” and offers a unique opportunity in a chairmaking class. While there isn’t any green woodworking involved the students will get a chance to learn or hone their turning skills. Each student will turn their own legs. posts, spindles, and stretchers. Options include a natural walnut or the traditional oak and pine combination that can be painted at a later date. Don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any comments questions or concerns.

All tools will be provided but feel free to bring your own if you have favorites. I love hand tools as well! If time permits, I’d be more than happy to help students “tune” their tools at the end of the week.
