The Kraut Hammer is so immense it strikes fear into the hearts of any wayward herbs and spices daring to cross its path. As for those sassy sauerkraut bits attempting to cling to the side of the mason jar, they’ll find themselves swimming with the brine.

These cocktail muddlers are made from the lovely Pacific Dogwood (Cornus Nutallii). A few years ago, I harvested this material from mountains about 45 minutes north of where we live in Auburn. The wood itself is a pleasure to work with a smooth consistent grain and a delicate pink hue. Each one is split from the log, turned on the lathe, then each facet cut in with a spokeshave. The final touches are carved with a chisel and knife and finished with natural food safe oil.

This Muddler is intended to be able to reach deeper into large mason jars for pressing down sauerkraut and kombucha.
