The Element Travisher
The Element Travisher
The Element is a bevel down travisher used, primarily, for carving chair seats but is capable of cutting just about any wood surface from flat to concave. It’s primarily intended for softer wood likes pine but can handle walnut, cherry, or mahogany, and many other hardwoods.
At the outset, I wanted something that would not only perform well but be comfortable in its performance. Its shape mirrors a natural hand and arm positioning and relieves stress from the fingers tips by engaging the palm quite a bit more. Its shape also allows it to be pulled quite comfortably much like a traditional spokeshave.
Additionally, this travisher is unique in that the blade is removable. Allowing for simpler sharpening, easy replacement, and maintaining a consistent mouth on the tool. In the event you need a to replace the blade one can be easily purchased from a number of woodworking tool stores.
Each tool is handmade in my shop in Auburn, California and comes with a custom ground blade, brass sole and blade cap, and a hardwood body. Finished with several coats of quality shellac buffed back and dressed with furniture wax. The tool will come with instructions, fully adjusted, and ready to use. I’ll also be uploading free video tutorials on its use and maintenance to Instagram and Youtube.
